Removable braces

In our orthodontic practice in Munich, we typically use removable braces for children and adolescents to facilitate the eruption of permanent teeth and to optimally position the jaws relative to each other (so-called FKO devices such as activators, bionators, or forward and backward double plates). By doing so, we make optimal use of growth and shorten the treatment duration with fixed braces. In addition to expanding and positioning the jaws, slight tooth tilting can also be achieved with removable braces. However, tooth roots are difficult to move, so during the course of orthodontic therapy in our Munich practice, a fixed brace (e.g., a lingual brace) is often used.

At our Orthodontics Munich practice, Dr. Krause, we distinguish between functional orthodontic devices (FKO) and active mechanical devices (plates). Functional orthodontic devices utilize the natural muscle forces of the jaw muscles and tissues. Active braces apply pre-calculated pressure to the teeth to move them into the correct position (e.g., with spring elements).

A unique aspect of our orthodontic specialty practice in Munich is that we do not need to take impressions of your child's teeth. After a digital scan of the teeth, we can either design the removable braces digitally and produce them directly with our 3D printer or print a model of the teeth and fabricate the removable brace on it. These methods are significantly more precise than traditional methods using impression materials (alginate) followed by plaster casting, leading to better fitting devices. To motivate cooperation, our dental technician takes special care to create beautiful, personalized braces with great attention to detail.
